Education
I am currently a PhD candidate in Caltech's Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences. I also received a Master's degree in Geology from Caltech in 2023.
Before coming to Caltech, I earned a Master's and Bachelor's of Science in Geology from Universidad Nacional de Colombia in Bogotá, Colombia. I also earned a Bachelor's of Science in Engineering Geodesy from Universidad Distrital Francisco José de Caldas in Bogotá.
Caltech
PhD in Geology: 2020-present
I started my graduate studies at Caltech in 2020, where I work with professors Paul Asimow and Claire Bucholz. My research with Dr. Asimow has focused on using thermodynamic modeling to understand mantle dynamics and primary melt production on Mars. In my work with Dr. Bucholz, I have combined thermodynamic modeling with laboratory work and sample analysis to understand secular changes in strongly peraluminous granites, igneous rocks formed when metasedimentary rocks partially melt.
Universidad Nacional de Colombia
M.Sc. in Geology: 2016-2019
Laureate Thesis
B.Sc. in Geology: 2011 - 2016
Valedictorian
I graduated Valedictorian from Universidad Nacional de Colombia in Bogotá (UNAL) in 2016. During my undergraduate studies, I worked with Prof. Carlos Zuluaga in the Lithological Characterization Lab at UNAL and as a visiting undergraduate researcher with Prof. Chris Andronicos and Prof. Ruth Aronoff at Purdue University.
For my Master's thesis, I studied the generation and evolution of tonalite-trondhjemite-granodiorite magmas in the Archean. This work was co-advised by Prof. Carlos Zuluaga at UNCL and Prof. Richard Palin at the Colorado School of Mines (now at Oxford University).
